When he got turned down after the first set of auditions, Mikey wasn't too downhearted. At the time he was working as a mechanic, but he was so determined to make it in showbiz that he knew some-thing else would come along. He probably didn't imagine it would be a second chance with Boyzone. He'd always loved songwriting, and had been the lead vocalist in a band called 'Ivory' which had performed covers around local pubs. At the auditions he sang 'Layla' by Eric Clapton, and Meatloaf's 'Two Out of Three Ain't Bad'.
