Work is paid or unpaid employment requiring both physical and mental skill and effort. The series of tasks undertaken for paid work is known as an occupation, job or career.

As money is required to survive in most parts of the world, the majority of adults in the world have some form of paid employment, which often takes up a large amount of their time. The remaining time is given to unpaid employment, recreation or relaxation.
