Introduction

Classifying objects (and processes) within the Universe is probably not a uniquely human function but the allocation of sets of language terms to define such classifications is a particularly human activity that emerged with the earliest languages and has continued ever since.

Humans are constantly classifying the world around them into varying classes.

Classifications and associated reference terminologies number in the thousands and exist in all aspect of human behavior including health care, finance, the arts and sciences.
