[ history ]

Overview

Skepticism is a large part of the basis for scientific thinking. The common perception about skepticism is wrong. It is not disbelieving any claim, but a way to analyze claims in a logical fashion, and then decide whether to accept the claim as logical or probable. The scientific way of evaluating a hypothesis this is the scientific method.

Skeptics understand that there is no supernatural. If something exists, it must be natural by definition. If something is natural, it follows the physical laws and is therefore observable and testable. Because of this, everything has a logical scientific explanation. No claim is dismissed right off the bat in the skeptical view. All claims a treated with the same tests as any other, though some may drop out faster.
