What is hot air ballooning?


Hot air ballooning is piloting or being a passenger of a hot air balloon. The hot air balloon was invented by the Montgolfier brothers in 1783 and the first hot air balloon flight was made by Pilâtre de Rozier and the Marquis d'Arlandes in Paris on November 21 of the same year.

What are the dangers of hot air ballooning?

-Going to fast downwards or to one side during the landing.
-Hitting power poles during landing.
-Hitting a tree during landing.
-Not finding a suitable landing spot.
-Colliding in the air with another balloon, plane or other object.
-Running out of gas.

What is a hot air balloon?

A hot air balloon is a synthetic fabric bag with an open hole at the bottom through which bursts of hot propane gas is directed from a burner when required. A basket is attached below the hole for the pilot and passengers to stand. A flap is located at the top of the balloon for emergency release of hot air or to ease the descent of the balloon.

What are the required ballooning licenses?

Hot air balloon pilots must have a Federal Aviation Administration license in the United States and a Civil Aviation Authority license in the United Kingdom.
